After Professor Zhang, Coroner Li Jianliang and his assistant Zhemei observe a minute's silence, Zhemei turns on the overhead light of the mortuary again. Due to his sadness, Professor Zhang could not bear to watch Shuhui's autopsy process anymore and hid outside the morgue for a walk. Dr. Li prepares the autopsy at the table while Zhemei starts taking pictures of the Shuhui's body.

Zhemei first photographed Shuhui's body covered with a blue cloth, then lifted the cloth and placed it at Shuhui's feet to take full-body photos and close-up photos of some areas. Afterwards, Shuhui went to the corridor outside the morgue to photograph the tools to be used for the body surface examination, and in the corridor there was another body named Wang Liting that had just been brought in. Like Huijun and Yan, she was a finalist in the National Beauty Contest, but had been appealing against her execution and the exhibition. She died at home after her appeal was eventually rejected. The body was taken to the mortuary for cremation as it was no longer in a condition to be made into a specimen.

While Zhemei was filming, Dr. Li made a preliminary observation and recorded the overall condition of Shuhui's body, its shape and development. He then put on a stethoscope and auscultated her left chest. For fresh bodies such as Shuhui's that have died for a short period of time and still have residual warmth, the coroner should reconfirm that there are no more vital signs before the autopsy is performed. After confirming that Shuhui was genuinely dead, Dr. Li said to his assistant Zhemei, "Please make sure to film every step and try to do the Demonstration of Post Mortem Body Examination successfully in one go."

Dr. Li, first examined the body's post-mortem changes. He lifted Shuhui's arms and legs successively to check for rigor mortis. Since she had just died a moment ago, Shuhui's body was still soft and showed no signs of rigour. Dr. Li then put his hand behind her waist and turned her over, placing her on her side on the autopsy table, in order to check whether there were already livor mortis forming on her back and hips. Dr. Li then took out a mercury thermometer and inserted it deep into Shuhui's anus to measure the anal temperature. While waiting for the result, he switched off the light in the mortuary and went outside with Zhemei to get some air and chat.

Ten minutes later, Dr. Li returned and removed the thermometer from Shuhui's anus and noted the results. After turning Shuhui's body back over, he clutched the back of her neck with his right hand, forcefully lifted her upper body, and held up her ID card in his left hand to take a photo with her. The guidelines for post-mortem examination stipulate that every coroner who handles the body during the process should take a photo with the body to be filed in the archives to clarify the responsibilities.

After laying Shuhui flat again, Dr. Li took out a ruler and measured the length of the corpse. After recording the results, he switched off the lamp above the autopsy table and examined Shuhui's body under the light of an ultraviolet torch. For female corpses that died unnatural deaths, ultraviolet light is generally used to focus on the face, breasts, abdomen, and pubic area. The ultraviolet light reveals possible sperm spots or other valuable evidence of crime in these locations.

After observing and documenting the overall condition of the body, Dr. Li began to examine Shuhui's body from head to toe. He first lifted her head and observed her face, neck and the sides of her head, especially the location of the rope compression on the neck. Fortunately, the wounds caused by the hanging were so shallow that they had little effect on the appearance of the body. Zhemei brought a plastic headrest and placed it under the head of the body.

In order to ensure the dignity of the dead, the authorities advocate that coroners should cover the genital organs of the bodies as much as possible when examining them. For this reason, the mortuary was specially equipped with small blue cloths used to cover the dead during the autopsy. Zhemei took a piece and covered Shuhui's pubic area.

Dr. Lee placed Shuhui's ID card on her chest and instructed Zhemei to take a photograph of her face and chest. The photograph would be published in the Gazette issued that day as part of Shuhui's obituary.

Dr. Li placed his right hand on Shuhui's forehead, and his thumb turned up her left eyelid to examine the pupil and cornea. He then walked to the end of the autopsy table and used the thumbs and forefingers of both hands to open Shuhui's eyes. Shuhui's corneas were still clear, but her pupils were dilated and her eyes had lost their focus, appearing very hollow and lifeless.

Dr. Li loosened Shuhui's eyelids, turned Shuhui's head to the right, picked up her ears for observation, and also observed her nasal secretions. He then opened Shuhui's mouth, flipped up her lips, and examined her teeth and mouth. "There were bleeding spots and a small amount of secretion in the female corpse's mouth, with the root of the tongue lifted upwards and the tip of the tongue resting against the back of the teeth. " said Forensic Doctor Lee to his assistant, who was in charge of taking notes.

哲美首先拍摄了淑慧盖着蓝布的尸体，然后将布掀开，放在淑慧脚下，拍摄了存入档案的尸体全身腹侧照片以及部分部位的细节照片。之后，淑慧到太平间外的走廊拍摄了体表检查所需要使用的工具，走廊中还停着刚刚送来的一具名叫丽婷的尸体。她与慧君和燕等人一样，本是在“国民美人”评选中获得名次的选手，但因不想被处死和展览一直在申诉，在申诉最终被驳回后在家自杀。由于尸体已不具备制作标本的条件，被送到太平间火化。

在哲美拍摄的期间，李法医对淑慧尸体的整体情况，体型、发育情况等进行了初步观察和记录。随后，他戴上听诊器，听诊了淑慧的左胸部。对于淑慧这样死亡时间很短，仍有余温的新鲜尸体，在尸检前法医应再次确认其已无生命体征。在确认淑慧已经死透后，李法医向助手哲美说：“请务必拍摄好每一个步骤，争取一次就把《尸体体表检查示教》做成功。”

李法医首先检查了女尸的尸体现象。他先后抬起淑慧的胳膊和双腿，检查是否有尸僵。由于刚死不久，淑慧的身体仍然很柔软，没有任何僵硬的迹象。李法医随后将手伸到女尸腰后，使她翻过来，侧躺在解剖台上，以检查背部和臀部是否已有尸斑形成。在确认没有尸斑后，李法医拿出水银温度计，插入了淑慧的肛门，测量肛温。在等待结果期间，他关掉了太平间的灯，和哲美到室外透气聊天。

十分钟后，李法医回来取出了淑慧肛门中的温度计并记录了结果。在将淑慧的身体翻回来后，李法医右手攥住她的后颈部，用力将她的上半身扶起，左手举着淑慧的身份证，与她拍摄了一张合影。尸体检查指南中规定，尸体处理过程中每一名经手的法医都应与尸体拍摄合影，归入档案，以明确责任。

将淑慧再次放平后，李法医拿出尺子测量了尸长。记录结果后，他关掉了解剖台上方的无影灯，在紫光手电的光下检查了淑慧的全身。对于非自然死亡的女性尸体而言，一般要使用紫外线着重对面部、乳房、腹部和阴部进行检查。紫外线能显示出这些位置可能存在的精斑或其他具有价值的犯罪证据。

在对尸体现象和尸体外观的整体情况进行观察和记录后，李法医开始从头到脚对淑慧尸体的正面进行检查。他首先托起淑慧的头，观察了她的面部、颈部和头部的两侧，尤其是颈部绳索压迫的位置。幸运的是，绞刑造成的伤痕非常浅，对尸体的外观几乎没有影响。哲美拿来塑料头枕垫在女尸的头下。

为了保障死者的尊严，主管部门提倡法医在对尸体进行检查时，应尽可能遮盖尸体的生殖器官。因此，太平间专门备有在尸检期间用于为死者遮羞的小块蓝布。哲美取来一块盖在了淑慧的阴部。

李法医将淑慧的身份证放在她的胸部，指示哲美拍摄了她的遗容。这张照片将刊登在当天发行的《宪报》中，作为淑慧讣告的一部分。

李法医将右手放在淑慧的额头上，拇指翻起了淑慧的左眼皮，检查瞳孔和角膜的情况。之后更走到解剖台的尽头，用双手的拇指和食指撑开淑慧的双眼。淑慧的角膜仍然清澈，但瞳孔已散大，眼睛失去了神色，显得十分空洞无神。

李法医松开淑慧的眼皮，将淑慧的头往右侧转了转，揪起她的耳朵进行了观察，还观察了她的鼻腔分泌物情况。随后，他掰开淑慧的嘴，翻起她的嘴唇，检查了牙齿和口腔。“女尸口腔内有出血点和少量分泌物，舌根向上提起，舌尖抵在齿后。“李法医向负责记录的助手哲美说道。
